Inca Manco Cápac International Airport, also known as Aeropuerto Internacional Inca Manco Cápac in Spanish (IATA Code: JUL and ICAO Code: SPJL),
is an airport in the city of Juliaca, departament of Puno, province of San Román and district of Juliaca. It is only thirty minutes away from the city of Puno at the Titicaca Lake,
and from there the border with Bolivia is nearby. The airport has the longest runway (4,2 km or 2,6 miles) in South America, good to know as
at higher altitudes planes need a longer distance to take off and also to land, due to the lower air pressure.
Although it is caled an internation airport, there are no regular international connections. Most tourist will prefer to leave Juliaca as soon as possible, some people
say that if you want to avoid one city in Peru, it is Juliaca. The city itself namely is ugly, noisy, with a lot of dust and traffic because of the
commercial activities, and without much to do for tourists. It's nickname is the "The Windy City", because of the city's location on the windy Plateau (Altiplano).
